With this session I got to learn how to make and pick up in game items and creating a UI/HUD display. First of all, got to learn how to create the coins and making them work for the player to pick them up. Which I found interesting in how you can setup the coin with an actor to provide the object that you can apply blueprints to. Another aspect I found interesting about the coins is that you can set the coins value which can affect the size of the coin. Another aspect of this session I found rather interesting is the UI/HUD as I have no idea that you can customize the UI/HUD in so many ways. As the only experience I have had with making a UI/HUD was in Unity with creating some simple text that would pop up. So, this has made it more interesting in the methods you can use to customize the UI/HUD. So, in my spare time I will play around with the UI/HUD customization. As I am amazed with the number of tools that are available for customizing the UI/HUD.
Another interesting feature I learnt was creating materials/textures and customizing them. As I had no clue you can adjust the colours properties such as the roughness and metallic. Which again I am going to experiment with the materiel as to what’s available. Overall looking back on this workshop session, I am getting a better idea of how to structure blueprints and how they work. This is useful as it allows me to reflect back on my idea for my game as now looking into the blueprint I feel like my idea for my game is going to be more complicated than I thought. As the mechanics I want to implement an enemy AI which is hunting you down. Which now looking at this idea I feel like I am going too far with my idea. So, I am going to have to rethink my idea for my game.
