Battlezone is an arcade game created by Ed Rotberg and published by Atari in 1980. Battle Zone was the first popular video game to feature 3D graphics, a technological breakthrough at a time when simple 2D games like Space Invaders were the norm. The game is a first-person perspective vehicular combat simulator in which the player destroys enemy tanks and other targets for points. The game uses vector graphics to produce 3D wireframes of enemy tanks, UFOs, and terrain. Some cabinets included an overlay to the screen to make the lower part of the screen appear green (gameplay area), and the top part of the screen red (radar and information). It is the direct ancestor of every First-Person Shooter, and the US Army even commissioned a customized variant (The Bradley Trainer) to train its tank troops. Surviving cabinets of the game are still very popular with collectors today.

I find that this game has Importance to the History of Games as it pushes the limit of arcade games of its era. As its going from the standard 2D arcade games such as Pong and Pacman to 3D. Which at that time would be ground breaking for games as it pushes games to the limit. Which for player of this time would be state of the art almost realistic. Which even the army commissioned a customised variant of the game to train tank crews. This shows how much this game has had an impact on its time for technology and the next step forward for games.

A major innovating feature for this game is the 3D aspect of the game which again is a game changer showing the direction of future games. How the 3D game works is that it uses vector graphics to produce 3D wireframes of enemy tanks, UFOs, and terrain. Which shows how technology can effect the way we see games and experience them.
