Reflecting back on some of my ideas from my blog post of potential ideas for my game I feel like I have been too ambitious with them. As now looking back at my ideas I feel like I could have been more realistic with them. As from playing around with some of the game mechanics I have learnt over the workshop sessions. This is showing me the reality of how a simple idea for a game can be so complicated in the terms of making its mechanics’. Making me have a better understanding of how games are made, and the effort put into making the games mechanics. But back to the topic of having overcomplicated ideas, so to solve this I think I am going to go with more of a simpler approach with my game. As I feel like if I go with my original ideas I would end up with an over complicated game which wouldn’t be polished due to overcomplicated mechanics. Which would make the gameplay for the player difficult as they wouldn’t understand what the games about and the mechanics available.
So, for my games idea now is to create a range of in game mechanics and play around with them. As it will allow me to get an idea of what I could do with them and what game I can create from them. The main reason for why I have been reflecting on my ideas is that I am not to sure of where I should go with my game and what it should be based on. As I don’t want to be fixed on an idea and end up changing it half way. However, with this I haven’t really produced that many assets for my game which annoys me as I don’t want to waste my time to produce them and not being used. But it is an aspect of the games industry as there are many scenarios where content has been cut due to not being needed.
So back to the topic of my game’s idea so far, I have changed my idea from a horror game to a parkour game. The reason for going with a parkour game is that it you have more room to play around with it in the means of gameplay and game mechanics. But the main reason for this is that I feel like this game idea is more achievable than my original horror game idea. As I prefer to make a polished playable game that the player can understand rather than a game with overly complicated mechanics for the player.
