Looking back over the course of this Unit I think that it turned out rather well even though I have had my ups and downs with this unit. Mainly due to my mental health which has gotten worse where I got to the point where I didn’t know whether or not to carry on with University. Which put me behind a couple of weeks due to my uncertainty, luckily I have chosen to carry on and do my best to catch up with the work. Other than that I have found this unit to be interesting and enjoyable with what we covered throughout this unit. As the first task was interesting as it allowed me to make low ploy scene with assets which I haven’t tried before this style. Anyway I think my outcome for this task turned out rather well as I thought my theme wouldn’t work. In many ways from being not achievable to having an empty areas. Overall this turned out rather well in that I managed to incorporate my interests in models kits and my interest in military history. As my scene does look like a small diorama from a scale model and how my assets bring my scene to life with telling the story of a soldiers life in the trenches. However I feel like there is a lot of room for improvement in some aspects of my scene such as sections of my scene felt like they were empty which I could have come up with ways to fill in the areas such as No mans land. As it felt so empty which I could have filled in with more assets from rubble, bits of equipment and more defences. One of my ways to fill it in was to add in a WW1 tank which would have added more to my scene. However I wasn’t able to complete this due to my mental health. As I would have finished task 1 over the Christmas holidays. Another improvement I would like to have sort out is the layout of my scene in how I could have angled my trench and improved the height and dips in my landscape. As the landscape feels rather flat when really it should be pitted and scarred due to the artillery bombardments. Other than that it turned out alright.
With task 2 was alright I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first task however it was interesting in how you can bake, texture assets and learn new software. As the hard surface die and the sculpted die turned out fine with the bake which took me some time to understand in my spare time to try and achieve the perfect base. Whereas texturing them I could have improved on with experimenting more with the theme of them and weathering. Which is down to sort of having an idea with the theme for them but not committing with the theme. As I was unsure if they would work but mainly I didn’t enjoy the project as I couldn’t think of how I could make it interesting for myself expect for learning the processes and methods.
When it came to the Game Jam I found it rather enjoyable due to the challenge of making a game within a couple of days in a group. But also it brings together people you might not know and work as a team to create a game bringing up peoples strengths and weaknesses which you can work on. With my groups game turned out rather well in the visuals aesthetics and game play. However one issue was getting the concept art to us 3D artists which slowed us down a bit but we worked around it by communicating with what needs to be made. For me I felt like we could have done more with our game in having more assets for the game. But other than this I felt like our game turned out rather well.
