With this session we learned about Retopology and Decemation which I have never heard of before. With this workshop session I wasn’t able to make it to the first session due to problems with the trains due to an overhead wire being damaged. However I managed to make it to the second session only to find out it wasn’t happening which left me wondering what I missed. So I went to the staff room to see if Chris could get me update on what I missed which he wasn’t there. So I referred back to the VLE to see if it might of been posted up luckily it had some tutorials on how to use the tools and the processes. To make sure that I am doing it right I asked my friends for feedback to see if I am doing it the right and if there might be anything that I might of missed.

With decimating the cube in Z brush it wasn’t to difficult just had to play around with the settings in the decimation tool. As to keep some of the detail I can mask the areas I want to keep which I tried but I kept on getting 400,000 points when really I should have between 10k-50k so that it doesn’t slow down Maya when importing it in. To solve this issue I removed all the masked areas on the cube which drop the points down to 25k which is perfect as it still keeps the details. With this sorted I imported it into Maya where I turned the cube live which I then quad draw it which allows me to create a silhouette of the cube. However I am unsure how much detail I should include in my cube so I might do one in low detail and one high detail. First I am going to see how my first attempt works out and go from there. With being unsure if I was doing the retopology right, I found some YouTube tutorials to get an idea of the purpose behind the method and how I could improve my work and what tools I could use

With my first attempt I think that it turned out rather well as it achieves the simple look of the high poly Zbrush cube. However, I’m not too sure if it is too simple as it looks to block like. So, in my spare time I will play around to see if I could improve the quality of it. One thing I am questioning about my attempt is if I need to do the indent from the carving of the symbols. So for now I have done on of the symbols just in case but also to see if I could do it and how it affects the retopology. Any way my method to creating the cube was to build up the edges and work my way in.
