With Monday’s lecture on Navigation, narrative and pacing it made me rethink my games level design in the means of if its user friendly and progressing challenges. With this in mind I went back over the lecture slides as I remember a link that takes you to a YouTube Video based on Nintendo’s level design which covers the basics of a Mario level design. Which I found interesting as it starts off with a basic tutorial section, so that the player can get the hang of the controls. From there they take away the safety net and gradually make the level a bit difficult but also add in some safe parts to the level to relax the player. This then lulls the player into not expecting a challenging part of the level.
After watching the linked video, it went onto another one with creating a level based on the level design used by Nintendo. Which again I found useful as it explains the meaning behind each section of the level.
