Indie Game: Level Design Idea

With creating an indie game, a major step in indie game development is the level design as it sets the scene for the game. As it allows the player to get an idea of what the game is about from the location and the time its set in. As it’s just like the saying “A picture is worth a thousand words” As you can get so much from an image whereas a game allows you to experience and walk around in it. Now that I have got to the stage where I have sorted out most of the mechanics it time to focus on the level design for my game which I am unsure of where I should go with it. As with my game so far, it’s about being a Lab rat where you have to complete these tasks to progress to the next level. With this idea in mind is that it’s sort of a tutorial so the player can get use to the controls and explore the level. However, a problem with this is I don’t want to make the tutorial to boring for the player.

So back to the level design with it I don’t really know How I should go about creating my level. So, looking back from the Lecture on level design helped me refresh my mind with the methods I could use to visualize my games level design. With this information I am going to play around with the methods I could use to design and create my level. From the methods shown to me I think I will try out the block mesh method first as it will allow me to visualize the layout of my game but also, I can drag it into unreal and play around with it. I would like to play around with the 2D maps, but I feel like its ok for rough drawing, but I feel like if I were to put more detail to it, it would be wasting my time.
