With today’s session we had some time to discuss our game idea with other students in small groups and Sharon. This allows me to get feedback on whether our games idea would work or not. As for me the feedback I was given was rather useful as it gives me an idea if my idea for my game works which it does in a way. As the problem with my idea for my game is that it’s not unique in a way as it’s so similar to current games out there in the industry. So, I am going to look into other approaches for my run and gun game. As the feedback from Sharon has helped me a lot as it’s given me an insight into other ways I can make my game have unique features that current games don’t have. Which Sharon suggested about making it light hearted comedy. As it takes a lot to create a gloomy atmosphere for a war themed game and it’s not as enjoyable. Whereas a comedy themed game is more enjoyable for the player to experience as its easier to get into.
So, I have had to rethink my whole game in a way which has put a spanner in the works as I finally settled on an idea for my game. However, Sharon has given me a starting point on me new idea as with the idea for my game is that I want the player to feel like a tank that unstoppable. Which when I explained it at the time to Sharon I said a “tank with legs” which sounds stupid but looking at it from a perspective it actually sounds like an alright idea. As in a way you’re playing a mech with a tank theme to it which is a theme that I am interested in military history and technology. But now I am going to rethink my game in how it’s going to be played and the mechanics I should use.
With this discussion about my game idea I am going to take these key points into mind for my game’s idea. As I like the idea that Sharon has brought up with the tank leg game however if I do go with this idea I don’t know what methods would work for a comedy war game. So, at the moment I am going to think about what direction I should go with my idea for my game. Which is going to be a hindrance as it kind of made me unsure of where I should go with my game. As I was settled with my current idea for my game being based around a bounty hunter game set in the dystopian future. With the main style of game play being based around a run and gun style of game play with parkour and puzzle system to get to your target. But with this discussion it has left me unsure of my idea for my game which is going to set me back. As I am now going to be rethinking my idea when really, I could be using this time to work on my game in the means of mechanics, Level design and assets.
