Reflecting back on the 3D modeling for this project I think that I have done rather well mainly due to having some experience with 3D modeling with Cinema 4D in college. As getting to grips with using Maya wasn’t to difficult as Maya is similar to Cinema 4D. With using Maya I found it easy to get use to the controls and the the regular tools. I got that confident with the software that I even learnt some of the short cut for tools and selecting edges and faces. I did have some difficulties with learning new methods and tools such as UV mapping. As its completely new to me which did take me some time to get use to it with being confident with it. As I had no idea how to make UVs and flattening them out. As there was so many tools to use for cutting and unfolding the UV however it was reassuring to go over them giving me more confidence with working on UVs. With all the Maya workshop sessions on tools and methods I found rather useful. However i do feel like I could have experimented more with the methods I have learnt over the workshop session. As I would put these new methods and tools to use with creating my own project to create assets such as some bullets and a couple of tank. Although I didn’t get to complete my own set projects as I would end up getting distracted with other work. So to improve from this I can work on my own projects and finish them off in my independent study after the Mid unit review. On the topic of completing task I found that I hardly any problems with the tasks set and complete them within the workshop session. However as I have said that I could have pushed myself to experiment more and learn some other tools and methods in my own time completed.
When it came to the Art test I felt like I could have made my design more unique as in the end I came up with my own version Master Chief mech/robot. Which is alright as its in my own view of how I would create the Master Chief. But I feel like I could have created my own robot/mech as it would be more unique than creating a version of master chief. With making my character for the art test I didn’t have any issues except with creating the UV and texturing it. As by that time I was running out of time with the Art test so I ended up with using an automatic UV which I sew some of the parts together to make it easier to understand which UV shell was. To improve from the Art test I could have created my own character and made my own UV for the character.
