Workshop Session: Maya (Week 1)

For the first week of the asset unit project, I have had a workshop session where we got taught the basics of using Maya from the basic tools and the methods we could use to improve our efficacy. Overall this has helped me a lot with getting a hang of Maya as I have some experience with 3D software with Cinema 4D however with Maya it has the same tools but a different layout. Making it hard to find where the tools are and how to use them compared to what I am used to. Which using this workshop session it has allowed me to get up to speed with using this software and getting use to the new layout. Especially with the hot keys and short cuts as the short cuts on Maya are completely different to Cinema 4D. But now I know the hot keys and short cuts will allow me to be more efficient in the future.

With the challenges I have encountered this week is with the workshop session we had to make cutlery which at first was a challenge as I haven’t done 3D assets in a while as we have been doing a lot of concept art. Luckily to solve this is the workshop session to get my mind back into it as making the cutlery allowed me to get my mind set on how I could recreate the cutlery in Maya. However, I still feel rusty with the software so to improve this I have experimented in my spare time to create more objects that relate to the cutlery, so I have created a bowl and a knife. But I still feel I could push myself, So I am now thinking of creating more items that I could put together in a small scene. Bringing all my work into one scene to display it.
